STARFLEET ACADEMY • SAN FRANCISCO • FOUNDED 2161

In 2161, United Earth's Space Academy was officially incorporated into the United Federation of Planets as Starfleet Academy, with the motto Ex Astris, Scientia… From the Stars, Knowledge.
Headquartered in the city of San Francisco, the academy is the principal training facility for Starfleet officers and command personnel. With satellite campuses on over 60 Federation worlds, the academy encompasses Starfleet Command School, Starfleet Flight School, Starfleet Tactical School, and the Starfleet Medical Academy. Thousands of applicants from all over the Alpha and Beta Quadrants complete to enter the rigorous four-year training program, which also accepts qualified candidates from non-Federation worlds.

LAUNCHED 5 APRIL 2063 • PILOTED BY ZEFRAM COCHRANE

On 5 April 2063, Earth's first faster-than-light spacecraft was launched from a former nuclear missile silo near Bozeman, Montana. The ship, christened the Phoenix by its designer Dr. Zefram Cochrane, was launched using a Titan missile booster, and achieved Earth orbit shortly before noon local time. Dr. Cochrane was piloting, with a crew of two. The ship's nacelles were extended, the warp core and plasma injectors were brought online, and the nacelles were charged. It only took seconds for the Phoenix to accelerate to critical velocity and then exceed the speed of light for the first time in human history. The Phoenix is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum

CONSTITUTION CLASS STARSHIP IN SERVICE 2245-2267 • CDRE. MATTHEW DECKER

This Constitution Class starship under the command of Matthew Decker served Starfleet for over 20 years, including three five-year exploration missions. Captain Decker was promoted to Commodore in 2263, but remained in command of the Constellation. In 2267, the Constellation encountered several star systems where planets had recently been destroyed, and found the cause in System L-374… an ancient alien doomsday machine that was breaking up the planets with an antiproton beam. The ship was badly damaged by the planet killer, and entire crew killed, except for Commodore Decker. After being rescued, Decker heroically flew a shuttlecraft into the planet killer in an attempt to destroy it.

MIRANDA CLASS STARSHIP • IN SERVICE 2264-2285 • CAPTAIN CLARK TERRELL

In 2285, the U.S.S. Reliant, under the command of captain Terrell, was assigned by Starfleet to find a suitable lifeless planet for Project Genesis. A survey team was dispatched to Ceti Alpha VI, considered a likely candidate. Unfortunately, the planet surveyed was actually Ceti Alpha V, the home of the exiled Botany Bay supermen led by Khan Noonien Singh. Khan and his followers managed to commandeer the Reliant, marooning the crew on the planet's surface, and then used Reliant to attack the U.S.S. Enterprise, under the command of Admiral James T. Kirk. Reliant was ultimately destroyed inside the Mutara Nebula by the detonation of the Genesis Device, but most of its crew was rescued from Ceti Alpha V.

CLASS STARSHIP. IN SERVICE 2285-2320 • CAPTAIN HIKARU SULU

Christened "The Great Experiment," the Excelsior was the first Starfleet vessel equipped with transwarp drive. Originally commanded by Captain Lawrence H. Styles, it failed its initial performance tests in 2285 and remained in spacedock for the next two years. Captain Hikaru Sulu was given command of the Excelsior in 2287, and was assigned a three-year mission to catalog gaseous planetary anomalies. While returning to base, the ship was caught in the subspace shock wave caused by the destruction of the Klingon moon Praxis. Captain Sulu remained in command of the Excelsior for over 30 years, successfully carrying out hundreds of exploration and first contact missions.

CONSTELLATION CLASS STARSHIP • IN SERVICE 2326-2355 • CAPT. JEAN-LUC PICARD

The Stargazer ls best known for its role in two historic battles: the first, in 2333, resulted in the death of its captain, and marked Jean-Luc Picard]'s field promotion to captain, a position he filled for the next 22 years. Stargazer saw active service in the Cardassian Wars, and participated in many first contact missions. In 2355. the Stargazer was attacked and badly damaged by an unknown vessel in the Maxi Zeta system. Captain Picard destroyed the attacking vessel using the now-famous Picard Maneuver, but the Stargazer was unsalvageable and was abandoned. In 2364, the wreck of the Stargazer was found adrift and salvaged by the Ferengi. It is now on display in the Fleet Museum.

LANCELOT CLASS STARSHIP • IN SERVICE 2288-2336 • CAPTAIN NYOTA UHURA

With a design modeled on the venerable Walker Class, the Lancelot Class quickly became the workhorse of Starfleet's survey and patrol fleet after its introduction in 2288. Captained by Nyota Uhura, the Leondegrance led an exploratory five-year mission to the Lesser Magellanic Cloud in 2301-2305, and participated in over one hundred first contact missions with the civilizations encountered there. The Leondegrance became an Academy training in vessel in 2317, with Capt. Uhura remaining in command until her retirement in 2335. Countless Academy cadets experienced faster-than-light travel for the first time aboard the Leondegrance, which is now on permanent display in the Fleet Museum

GALAXY CLASS STARSHIP • IN SERVICE 2363-2371 • CAPTAIN JEAN-LUC PICARD

Constructed at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on Mars, the Enterprise-D was launched on stardate 41025.5 and was the fifth Federation Starship to bear the name. The Enterprise-D was captained by Jean-Luc Picard throughout its eight years in service. It participated in many historic exploration and first contact missions, including first contact with the Borg in 2365. The Enterprise-D underwent a major refit in 2371, and was lost later that year during a mission to Veridian III. The secondary hull was destroyed in a warp core breach, but the saucer section made a successful landing on the planet's surface and is now on display in the Starfleet Museum

INTREPID CLASS STARSHIP • IN SERVICE 2371-2378 • CAPTAIN KATHRYN JANEWAY

One of the most storied starships in the history of Starfleet, the Voyager was the first ship to explore the Delta Quadrant, and was responsible for hundreds of first contacts during its seven-year voyage back to Earth. Launched from Earth Station McKinley in 2371, the Intrepid Class starship incorporated many technological innovations, including bioneural circuitry, variable geometry warp nacelles, and an Emergency Medical Hologram. It was also the first vessel to test the class 9 warp drive in deep space. Voyager was declared lost in 2373. but contact was reestablished by the Pathfinder Project in 2376. Using a Borg transwarp hub, Voyager returned to Earth to great acclaim in 2378.
